GOLD Coast beer brewing company Burleigh Brewing has won gold at the World Beer Championship in Chicago for its tropical pale ale.
The Burleigh Brewing Company entered the pale ale, Twisted Palm into the session ale category, and was rated as ‘exceptional’, with 91 points out of a possible 100.
Burleigh Brewing Company head brewer Brennan Fielding said the win was “thrilling” and reflected what people had been saying about the tropical brew.
“So far the response has been that people like it, straight away,” he said.
The judges had described the beer as “a very tasty fruity session ale” with “flavours of tangerine and grapefruit.”
Mr Fielding said the inspiration to brew this ale was an accumulation of different beer flavours tasted while travelling in the US.
“It goes back to 2012 on a trip to Chicago for the World Beer Cup as a judge,” he said.
“I stopped in San Francisco and Hawaii and … it was those three flavours in different beers that inspired me.”
Twisted Palm was released in September this year and CEO Peta Fielding said the brew’s win so soon after its release spoke volumes about the brewery’s commitment to quality.
Mr Fielding has been brewing since 1984 and said he was influenced by his father who enjoyed trying brews from different countries.
Burleigh Brewing was established by the Fieldings in 2006.
In 2012 the company’s HEF won the gold medal for South German-Style Hefeweizen/Hefeweissbier at the Brewer’s Association World Beer Cup.
