Jobs Fly In As Runway Plans Unfold

ABOUT 300 jobs will be created as construction of Brisbane Airport’s new parallel runway moves to the next stage.
The $1.4 billion new runway, due to open in 2020, will double the capacity.

Brisbane Airport Corporation has awarded a $120 million contract to McConnell Dowell to build an underpass so vehicles can travel under taxiways that will connect the new runway to existing terminals.

Work will start next month and continue until August 2018, with up to 300 jobs.

BAC chief executive and managing director Julieanne Alroe said the Dryandra Rd contract was a significant piece of the runway project which would create 2700 jobs at its peak.

“Most importantly, when the new runway opens in 2020, Brisbane Airport will have one of the most efficient runway systems in the country,” she said. “Efficient operations and ample capacity will attract more opportunities.”
