THE finishing touches are being put on the latest revamped venue at The Star Entertainment Group’s rapidly expanding Broadbeach complex.
Former gaming floor eatery Bite reopens this weekend as Food Quarter after a major overhaul.
The cafeteria-style dining spot’s relaunch follows the gaming floor’s J Bar transformation into Cherry which reopened two weeks ago.
The Food Quarter is a bigger and better version of Bite and one of five new food and beverage outlets being launched at the site ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
A major new sports bar is also under construction in a space connecting the existing casino complex to new six-star 53-suite hotel The Darling. The sports-viewing venue, which will have a large LED super screen plus multiple other TVs and VIP booths, is pencilled in for a February start.
The crowning piece of the next phase of the casino site redevelopment will be a Darling hotel rooftop bar and restaurant on the 19th floor opening mid-March.
It will be co-managed by top restaurateur Simon Gloftis and former Surfers Paradise nightclub kingpin Billy Cross, as revealed by the Bulletin on Saturday.
Star Queensland managing director Geoff Hogg said it was all part of an exciting evolution of the property.
The existing hotel and casino would be connected to The Darling including via a new all-season outdoor terrace to be completed prior to the Commonwealth Games in April.
“Investing in our culinary offering and creating exciting new food and beverage experiences is a key focus of our transformation,” he said.
Mr Hogg said The Star was very conscious of adding value to the Gold Coast hospitality market and culinary scene, and helping drive tourism to the city.
“It’s a collective strength as we build more and more destination bars and restaurants together and drive more visitation from Brisbane, other parts of Australia and internationally.
“The reason we became one of the first official partners of the Commonwealth Games is it’s something really significant for the Gold Coast.
“Everything we are doing is building on that.”
“Ongoing investment in the Gold Coast is an absolute necessity and we’re committed to continually evolving our offering to drive vital economic benefits for the region.”
The new and relaunched venues are all part of the ambitious $850 million investment in the site.
A new 53-storey tower with residential apartments and hotel rooms is the next planned addition — depending on presales, it could be the first of up to five in a future masterplan.
